Pregnancy & Delivery

Congratulations ... You're pregnant!

Prenatal follow up

The first consultation takes place ideally around 7-8 weeks of pregnancy (from the last menstruation).

To obtain an appointment within this period, it is better to contact the secretary directly at +32 2 675 75 35 every working day between 8 am-10 am and between 2 pm-4 pm.

According to the date of the last menstrual period, an appointment will be proposed.

Pending the appointment, a blood test could already be performed. This can be done by the midwife at the doctor's office (Wednesday or Friday) after appointment. But if you prefer, the request can be sent by mail and can be done by your general practitioner or at a collection center of your choice.

A first ultrasound will be done in order to date and evaluate the pregnancy.

Pregnancy follow-up consultations will be held approximately once a month.

It is also possible to follow-up alternately with the midwife, who works in close relation with Dr Swimberghe.

At the end of pregnancy, the consultations are more frequent, in order to exclude any risk of complication.

Delivery

Giving birth is a magic and unique experience for every mom!

Labor and delivery occur mainly in the delivery room within the CHIREC DELTA hospital.

Dr Swimberghe gives you the opportunity to personalize your childbirth and therefore to attend your delivery.

The aim is to create a relaxed atmosphere, in which you feel safe and comfortable.

Once as you are admitted to the delivery room, a midwife will welcome you. She will contact Dr Swimberghe, who will remain available throughout your labor and delivery.

The team of midwives will inform you at any time and will listen to you throughout labor and delivery.

While respecting your choices, we try to minimize unnecessary medical interventions.

It is also possible to be accompanied by your physiotherapist during labor and delivery.

A custodial gynecologist, pediatrician and anesthesiologist are on site and are available if necessary.

Preparing for Childbirth

There are many activities to prepare you physically for the birth, depending on your approach and your birth plan.

Often you are invited to start physiotherapy sessions.
This can be done individually or in a group.
In general, these sessions start from the 6th month of pregnancy.

There are other types of preparation, such as haptonomy, or sophrology. These often begin earlier in pregnancy, once you feel your baby moving.

Obviously, these types of preparation do not exclude any other informative or physical activities (follow up by a midwife, prenatal classes, aquagym or prenatal yoga, etc.)

The goal is to prepare you for the best and the best for your baby, while respecting your approach and your personal choices.
